Hey Zengarmy,
Beyoncé recently did a music video called “Pretty Hurts”
and it provoked a lot of my own thoughts.
and it provoked a lot of my own thoughts.
The lyrics of this song is very inspiring to me,
therefore I would like to dedicate a large space for these lyrics
to squeeze into this blogpost mwahahaha :

[Harvey Keitel:] Ms. 3rd ward, your first question : "What is your aspiration in life?"
[Beyoncé:] My aspiration in life... would be... to be happy.
Mama said, "You're a pretty girl.
What's in your head, it doesn't matter
Brush your hair, fix your teeth.
What you wear is all that matters."
Just another stage, pageant the pain away
This time I'm gonna take the crown
Without falling down, down, down
Pretty hurts, we shine the light on whatever's worst
Perfection is a disease of a nation, pretty hurts, pretty hurts
Pretty hurts, we shine the light on whatever's worst
We try to fix something but you can't fix what you can't see
It's the soul that needs the surgery
Blonder hair, flat chest
TV says, "Bigger is better."
South beach, sugar free
Vogue says, "Thinner is better."
Just another stage, pageant the pain away
This time I'm gonna take the crown
Without falling down, down, down
Pretty hurts, we shine the light on whatever's worst
Perfection is a disease of a nation, pretty hurts, pretty hurts
Pretty hurts (pretty hurts), we shine the light on whatever's worst
We try to fix something but you can't fix what you can't see
It's the soul that needs the surgery
Ain't got no doctor or pill that can take the pain away
The pain's inside and nobody frees you from your body
It's the soul, it's the soul that needs surgery
It's my soul that needs surgery
Plastic smiles and denial can only take you so far
Then you break when the fake facade leaves you in the dark
You left with shattered mirrors and the shards of a beautiful past
Pretty hurts, we shine the light on whatever's worst (pretty hurts)
Perfection is a disease of a nation, pretty hurts, pretty hurts
Pretty hurts, we shine the light on whatever's worst
We try to fix something but you can't fix what you can't see
It's the soul that needs the surgery
When you're alone all by yourself
And you're lying in your bed
Reflection stares right into you
Are you happy with yourself?
You stripped away the masquerade
The illusion has been shed
Are you happy with yourself?
Yes.

Some people inherit things from their parents like their eyes, hair, height or knobbly knees
but I inherited my mum’s tendency to worry.
but I inherited my mum’s tendency to worry.
All the time. About almost everything a human could worry about.
As a child, I’d express my worry through crying,
and I remember one specific time when I forgot my geography book in school,
I burst out crying due to worrying that I’d be in trouble
and I became a laughing stock amongst my friends when I got to class,
and I became a laughing stock amongst my friends when I got to class,
and my Geography teacher couldn’t have care less.
When you do something to an extreme and so intensely,
there comes a time when you snap.
there comes a time when you snap.
There’s not usually a gradual progression of starting to do it less and less until you stop.
You quite literally break and either force yourself to go cold turkey,
or you change your lifestyle so drastically that what you were doing just doesn’t fit into your life anymore.
For me this moment was about a year ago when I’d gotten to a point in my life
when everything felt like it was at a stand still
and there was nothing going on that I could worry about.
when everything felt like it was at a stand still
and there was nothing going on that I could worry about.
So, when things finally did start moving along again,
there was no way I was going to ruin it by worrying!
there was no way I was going to ruin it by worrying!
My best friend at the time told me that worrying about something
doesn’t change anything about the situation.
doesn’t change anything about the situation.
For instance, there was a party coming up that someone I didn’t particularly get on with
was also attending but whether it was going to be awkward to see them or not,
there was nothing I could do to change it
and worrying wasn’t going to sway fate in either direction,
was also attending but whether it was going to be awkward to see them or not,
there was nothing I could do to change it
and worrying wasn’t going to sway fate in either direction,
so the best thing to do was to not worry and just enjoy the party
and the people going whose company I did enjoy.
and the people going whose company I did enjoy.
Worrying serves absolutely no purpose.
It just makes you feel more uncomfortable and most of the time,
what you’re worrying about doesn’t need worrying about
and turns out to be absolutely fine!
and turns out to be absolutely fine!
(There were so many people at that party that I didn’t even run into said person!)
Also, things are definitely going to go wrong at some point or another.
Not to darken the mood at all, but no one’s life ever runs smoothly
with no rough patches or little bumps and hiccups along the way.
with no rough patches or little bumps and hiccups along the way.
However, there’s no point in worrying or anticipating those scuffles
because it serves no purpose.
because it serves no purpose.
Worrying won’t stop those bad things from happening.
The best thing you can do is prepare for how to handle
those situations when they arrive.
those situations when they arrive.
Have a plan so when those moments turn up
you won’t be thrown off track or caught off guard.
you won’t be thrown off track or caught off guard.
You’ll know exactly what to do, deal with it and carry on.
So, the next time you feel yourself getting antsy about something
and feel that familiar knot in your stomach tighten,
and feel that familiar knot in your stomach tighten,
remember that worrying won’t change the outcome and you’re better off
facing your oncoming storms with a saucepan on your head,
a wooden sword in your hand and a plan in your noggin!
facing your oncoming storms with a saucepan on your head,
a wooden sword in your hand and a plan in your noggin!
